Ingredients

  • 1 cup apple peels and core
  • 1 1/2 cup water
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon(optional)
  • 1/4tsp nutmeg(optional)
  • Red Food color (optional)

Method:

  1. Add 1 cup peel/core to a pan, add water and boil it until the cores and peels become soft. Note the cores before using should be chopped to smaller chunks
  2. Mash it and strain it. Now boil this strained Liquid with sugar on low to medium flame. Sugar can be added or reduced as per the taste
  3. If you like apple jam spiced, only then add spices to the apple sugar liquid or skip it.
  4. Add food color if required. Since I love the beautiful red color of apple I added little food color. This can be skipped. The apple jam will have the color of applesauce/apple cider vinegar if color is not used
  5. Add Lemon juice, this should not be skipped. Now bring this to boil... Do not allow the liquid to boil over
  6. Keep cooking and it will become syrupy.
  7. To know if its done, take a separate bowl fill it with ice cubes, take a spoon of the liquid and keep the spoon over the ice cubes, the liquid will cool, turn the spoon sideways,it will not be like a syrup. it would have jelled onto spoon
  8. If the jam is still syrupy on the spoon , then cook until it is not syrupy when placed over icecubes. In a separate bowl start boiling some water
  9. The Jam jar should be warmed and sterilized up before its used for storing. Pour the hot jam from the stove in the warm jar. do not fill it to the rim, leave some space and do not leave too much space as it will capture air. Seal it tightly
  10. Place the jam in boiling water for 10 minutes and then allow it to cool for 10-12 hours before use. Refrigerate it and you can use it for 3 months.Yummy Homemade Apple Jam is ready
My Tip:
Always give a gap of 10 -12 hours after making jam this will allow the flavor to set in
